SARASOTA (Bay News 9) -- A new program is
helping struggling Bay area residents get their lives
together - by getting their hands dirty.
The once-homeless men at the Harvest House
community in Sarasota are growing their own meals
and learning how to be self-sufficient.
A year ago, Jack Jones didn't know a thing about
gardening. Now, he tends vegetables and plants in
the community's garden.
"It gives me a sense of accomplishment, something
I've never had in my life before," Jones said.
Jones used to be homeless, but he said that, after
coming to the rehabilitation center and learning how
to grow his own food, he feels like he's getting his
life back on track.
